i was finally healed enough to pick up a drill so i started building today. i figured out a small but easy to fix mistake in my plan. i realized that in my plan it represented the hutch to be completely on the ground. no legs, runners, or anything. i grabbed some old pressure treated 2X4's and cut them to size and screwed them on the bottom of the hutch |
. i also realized that i most likely needed to raise the run part too. i don't want to though. i will at least put wire on the bottom of the run. the problem in not raising the wood is that when it gets wet (being an outdoor hutch with untreated wood) it will warp and decay. especially the fact that it would be osb plywood. osb plywood is basically just a bunch of wood chips pressed together. they often use it in building houses before they put the outside siding on. it would last untreated for a couple months but after a while it would fall apart. in bunny hutches, it is usually recommended that you not use treated wood because bunnies love to chew and they almost 100% guaranteed will chew on their hutch. if you were to use a treated wood and the bunnies chewed on it they would probably die or get very sick from poisoning. nobody wants that. but you have to somehow find a way to treat the wood on the outside where the bunnies wont get to it. i think im just going to use a general wood treatment.
the hutch is coming together very nice. school started today so i wont have as much time to work on it. im supposed to be getting my own computer soon so updating will be easier. hopefully i will be able to work on the hutch today. thanks for reading, leave comments below and let me know what you think!
